Dapur Indonesian Plantbased Restaurant Zürich

About us

RESTAURANT DAPUR

We opened our doors at Dapur Indonesia in 2011 as we were the first indonesian restaurant in Zürich. We felt that there was a great desire for a place where travelers who visited the lands of the 17'000 islands can relive their travels in an authentic indonesian atmophere, or a place for those who are simply curious about the taste of an indonesian meal. We are honored to host so many friendly guests from far and near and to be able to welcome some of our guests even on a regular base.

RACHEL & DIANE

Diane, born in Jakarta, has studied Hotel Management in the francophone part of Switzerland. She has gained experience in various restaurants and quickly learned that the kitchen was her true calling. She had always dreamt of leading her own restaurant, so making this dream come true was her initial motivation behind Dapur.

Rachel, Diane’s partner, is a French and Swiss citizen. When Dapur openend its doors in 2011 she was still working as an architect and she didn’t plan to change that at first. Once she started to help at our restaurant here and there, she found her passion for gastronomy and then decided to change her career path and put all her energies into Dapur.

WHY PLANTBASED

We were lead to overthink our diet due to some intriguing documentaries on food processing methods and inappropriate livestock farming. At first we thought it is quite difficult to reduce or finally exclude every anmial product from our diet – we were amazed by how many alternatives there are and how enjoyably they can be introduced into a daily routine.

Having switched onto a vegan diet in our home, it was only a matter of time until we decided to also introduce this change to our restaurant. Since mid 2018 we are now finally ready to introduce our plantbased menu at Dapur.

We are excited that the vegan movement is growing and that more and more people are reducing their intake of animal products. The reasons for this may vary – let it be animal welfare, global sustainablity, reduction of world hunger or increased food transparency –  the outcome is vegan and we fully support that. Let us show you how we serve delicous authentic indonesian meals purely based on plants.
